May is National Bike Month, and our friends at the Adventure Cycling Association are determined to raise $30,000 to assist with the creation of an official U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS). When the USBRS is finished, it will be the biggest official cycling route network in the world!
There are national and international bicycle route systems growing around the world, such as the Euro Vélo, so the USBRS is much needed in the United States. USBRS routes will connect cyclists across the United States with cities, transportation hubs, scenic and historic destinations through existing (and new) infrastructure. The USBRS routes will be numbered, mapped, and officially recognized by state and federal government agencies.
To stay up-to-date on the U.S. Bicycle Route System, and the fundraising campaign, supporters can join the conversation about the USBRS on Facebook, or follow the project on Twitter @usbicycleroutes (#2011usbrs). If you’d like to help spread the word, learn how at http://www.adventurecycling.org/beapartofit/.
