Hi Victor,

I'd be inclined to wait until you move to see what kind of riding you'll actually be doing. The Scott Sportster P6 seems like a pretty good bike, though I've seen some mention that the gearing is not optimal for speed. See what kind of club rides, etc. that you will be doing. In clubs that grade rides by difficulty/miles, it's not unusual to see folks on D and C level rides on hybrids -- so you could definitely ride your Sportster on a couple of those without having to change bikes (though most people will probably be on road bikes). You'll probably eventually want to get a road bike if you keep doing road rides -- hybrids are versatile, but they are "jacks of all trades, masters of none".

Happy Riding!

Hello,

About 3 months ago I bought a Scott Sportster P6 hybrid weighs a little over
27 lbs. This was for a charity ride, my mountain bike was over 20 years old and I didn't know if it could make the 35 miles without falling apart + the area where I live is not road bike friendly. I'm 4 months later my dad says we are moving closer to my brother and there they have group rides, clubs etc. I plan on joining them on their rides but I don't think I will be able to reach 20+ mph on my bike. I've been thinking if I should trade in my bike for a road bike? what would you do in this situation?

I agree with Deb!! I really liked this article. I don't think I've seen a cycling article so complete. I will definitely use it for me and recommend it to my friends. Thanks a lot!!

With Spring on the way and more people getting out, biking is a great way to stay fit, have good quality family time and maybe even lose weight. The tips you have put out here are great and I am including this article in the healthy blog carnival coming out on my site tomorrow. Thanks for a great article.
